Frequently asked questions
How is my balance calculated?
Balance = starting balance + maaser due on your income − tzedaka you gave. A positive balance is what you still owe; “ahead” means you gave more than was due.
Can I give 20% (chomesh) or a custom percentage?
Yes. Choose 10%, 20% or Custom for each income entry, and set your default in Settings.
Gross or net income?
Opinions differ. Enter income the way your rav tells you — the app calculates from the amount you enter.
Where is my data, and how do I back it up?
Everything is saved automatically on your computer. A backup is made when you close the app and once a day, in Documents\Maaser Tracker Backups. You can also use Settings → Save a copy as…, and restore with Settings → Restore from backup….
Can I use it on two computers?
Yes. In Settings → Sync across computers, choose OneDrive (or another synced folder) on both computers. Changes from each computer are combined automatically.
Reminders don't appear.
Reminders are Windows notifications, shown while the app is running. In Planning → Reminders, turn on “Keep running in the tray”, and make sure notifications are allowed in Windows Settings → System → Notifications.
How do I import from my bank?
Download your transactions as a CSV file from your bank's website, then use Import on the Income or Maaser Given page. Choose Income, Tzedaka or Skip for each line.
“Save as PDF” doesn't work.
The app uses Windows' built-in “Microsoft Print to PDF”. If it's missing, turn it on in Windows Features (search “Turn Windows features on or off”).
How do I switch to Hebrew or dark mode?
Settings → Appearance and language.
Maaser Tracker is a record-keeping tool and does not give halachic, tax or financial advice.
